The UAE has set its sights on becoming the world’s “factory of intelligence,” according to UAE AI Minister HE Omar Al Olama. This ambition is fueled by the country’s unique ability to turn major AI projects from concept to reality with remarkable speed—a capability made possible by the UAE’s early focus on artificial intelligence. The UAE appointed the world’s first AI minister in 2017 and began investing early in frontier technologies, infrastructure and skill development. Today, the UAE leads in AI diffusion among its population and is actively deploying capital to advance AI, through projects like:
· Creating 1 Billion AI Agents: UAE tech leader G42 is aiming to deploy 1 billion AI agents in the UAE. The AI agents are anticipated to increase business efficiencies and cut costs across the country.
· Increasing AI Token Production: The UAE announced plans to produce 60 trillion AI tokens—60% of total global AI token production. AI tokens, dubbed the ‘currency of AI,’ help users generate more comprehensive results on AI models.
· Establishing Digital Embassies: G42 introduced a program for nations to deploy sovereign, secure AI at data centers located in the UAE.
Why This Matters
The UAE’s ability to deliver high-quality projects on expedited timelines—including Stargate UAE and other major data center investments—has cemented its status as a partner of choice for the US. As the UAE advances its AI ecosystem, it is opening new avenues for US companies looking to expand into the Middle East and North Africa. The country’s longstanding commitment to prioritizing AI is enabling advancements across both the US and UAE.
