ADNOC Awards Texas-based McDermott $1B+ Gas Development Contract

August 2026

ADNOC has awarded Houston-based energy engineering firm McDermott a $1 billion+ contract to build a new surface pressure boosting facility at Abu Dhabi's Umm Shaif offshore field. The contract is part of a broader $6.2 billion gas development initiative that is expected to unlock over 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day — roughly 10% of current UAE domestic gas consumption. The facility is targeted for completion by 2030.

Why This Matters

As the UAE invests in major energy projects across the US, American firms are playing a central role in UAE energy infrastructure development. ADNOC is working with leading US companies across engineering, AI and robotics to pioneer next-generation energy sector practices. McDermott's contract deepens the connection between UAE and US energy systems as both countries work to build a more energy-secure world.

HOUSTON, Aug. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- McDermott has been awarded a mega* engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract by ADNOC for Package 4 of the Umm Shaif Integrated Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting (SPB) Project. The project is a critical component of the Umm Shaif Long Term Development Plan (LTDP), designed to maximize gas recovery from the field and increase gas production.

Under the contract, McDermott and its Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW) consortium will provide the complete EPCI scope for a new surface pressure boosting facility, including the construction and installation of a jacket and topside, as well as associated brownfield modifications. Upon completion, the topside will rank among the heaviest offshore modules ever installed in the Middle East.

"This award reflects ADNOC's confidence in McDermott's ability to deliver complex offshore developments safely and efficiently," said Mike Sutherland, McDermott's Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East. "Leveraging our extensive regional experience and

integrated execution capabilities, we look forward to supporting ADNOC's production objectives and contributing to the UAE's long-term energy ambitions."

"We are proud to expand our role in the advancement of the Umm Shaif field in a strategic and reliable manner and in line with ADNOC's vision for sustainable energy growth," added Angela De Vincentis, McDermott's Vice President of Operations, Offshore Middle East.

Engineering and project management activities will be led from McDermott's offices in the United Arab Emirates. Fabrication will be carried out at QMW, McDermott's joint venture fabrication yard in Qingdao, China.
