Abu Dhabi tech investor MGX, alongside BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners and the AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), has finalized its $40 billion acquisition of Texas-based Aligned Data Centers. Following the deal, the consortium committed an additional $5 billion to fuel Aligned's continued growth. Aligned operates 51 data center campuses with more than 6.4 GW of operational and planned computing capacity across the US and Latin America, including sites in Northern Virginia, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix and Salt Lake City.
Why This Matters
AIP is a $100 billion investment consortium co-founded by MGX alongside BlackRock, Microsoft and Nvidia, built to finance the physical infrastructure that American AI runs on. The Aligned acquisition — one of the largest data center deals in US history — marks AIP's first major deployment, expanding the computing capacity that US hyperscalers depend on to train models, run applications and scale operations.
